Diving Into Naturals: An Overview of Natura Pet Foods

Nathaniel Cook, DVM

Nathaniel Cook, DVM grew up in Evanston, Illinois, just north of Chicago. He has always been interested in animals, but was unable to have pets of his own until high school—so he never passed up any opportunity to spend time with friend’s pets or visit the pet store. In high school, he worked in pet stores and animal hospitals which solidified his goal to be a veterinarian. He graduated from Davidson College in 2000 with a Bachelor’s of Science in biology and completed his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. While in veterinary school, Dr. Cook was able to further explore his interest in animal nutrition through a student internship program. He then entered veterinary practice in general practice and emergency & critical care hospitals where he continued to develop his interest in clinical nutritional therapy for healthy maintenance and treatment of specific medical conditions. Dr. Cook joined Natura Pet as a Technical Services Veterinarian in October 2011. The human-animal bond has been an area of utmost importance and attention for Dr. Cook—specifically how proper nutritional counseling can enhance it. The evolving lifestyles of dogs and cats and our greater understanding of animal nutrition over recent decades have necessitated major changes in the way we feed our pets. With the ability to formulate and offer new and innovative diets, such as grain-free diets, and the commitment to apply the most current and innovative nutrition research, Dr. Cook believes we will help to improve the lives of more dogs and cats. Dr. Cook resides in Chicago, IL with his rescue dogs Charlie, a Chihuahua, and Butch, a Beagle-mix.
